From 2012 to 2015 SMPhoto Conservation Studio was the Italian representative and the head of communications for the European project Daguerreobasecoordinated by the FotoMuseum Provincie Antwerpen (FoMu) and curated by 17 partners, from 13 different European countries.

The Daguerreobase project consisted in the creation of the online database www.daguerreobase.org, which contains European daguerreotypes in public and private collections all over Europe. This database, enriched by thousands of daguerreotype images, has turned out a unique research tool not only for the users in the scientific community, but also for collectors, photographers and the general public.

In the context of this project we organized two international conferences “When Photography was a Silver Plate”, held in 2013, in Rome at the Istituto nazionale per la grafica, and “The Daguerreotype Symposium” held in Bry-sur-Marne, in October 2015. For the European Daguerreotype Association (EDA) SMP created the digital magazine Daguerreotype Journal, www.daguerreobase.org/en/journal.

The daguerreotypes shared on Daguerreobase are also available on Europeana.eu, the website and digital library dedicated to the cultural heritage of the European Union.
